Storyboard Text

  • During the 1800s, people work together to build a home.
  • Will you hand me the seeds?
  • I'm working on the wood, sorry.
  • More and more people start to build homes in this area.
  • Many houses are built in a very short time.
  • What are we going to do next?
  • We can decorate and expand our town.
  •  Many people lived there now. Most of them are forty-niners. This helped merchants become wealthy.
  • Forty-niner: fortune-seekers who came to California during the Gold Rush.
  • Our town has grown so quick. Our work has paid off!
  • More than just houses are built now. There are stores, hotels, bakeries, and more. The city flourished because of the Gold Rush.
  • Boomtown: a fast-growing community
  • The small town grew and grew into a huge town with a huge population in under a year! (Just like San Francisco) This town is a boomtown!
