When he woke up in the middle of the morning, with the sun shining through his window, his first thought was of her. After greeting his family, he headed out on the road looking for the place where he had left Cruz the last night. In the daylight, the place was desolate and still & only saw an adobe shack in the distance. He walked on the dry land until he stood in front of the wooden door. Martin knocked on the door. A few minutes passed and no one answered.
He knocked again several times, until finally an old woman opened the door a little, and looked at him without saying anything. Martin asked for Cruz. The old woman looked at him seriously. He told her that Cruz has his military jacket, and the old woman looked at him incredulously.
It's not possible
I want to see Cruz Delgada, please. Do you know where I can find her?
But Cruz has my military jacket. I lent it to her last night.
They walked towards the back of the shack and continued along an old path until they reached a little cemetery. She stood in front of a tombstone around which beautiful flowers grew. To his surprise, the soldier saw that his military jacket was carefully hung over the tombstone. He took off his jacket to read the inscription. A chill ran through his bones, and stunned, he looked back at the old woman.
