On the first real day of school, two of the Little Rock Nine members approached the school. White moms immediately started yelling threats at them to try to make them go home.
As they made their way into the school, white students started to harass them right away. The new students began to feel really scared, and started to regret coming to school.
In class, students would move seats because they didn't want to be near any black kids. It hurt their feelings, but if it meant no one insulting them, then some of them were okay with it.
Lunch was the only time that the Little Rock Nine could see each other. It was their favorite part of school and the most safe. The lunch workers were also black and treated them respectfully.
By the end of the day, the hallways were even more dangerous then before. Objects were being thrown at them and insults were coming from every direction.
The attacks were so bad that the Little Rock Nine were escorted out in vehicles as fast as possible. It was the most safe, and fast, way to safety. After the first day, the attacks kept getting worse and worse as the days at school continued for the Little Rock Nine.
