  •  March 1973, Liddy, Hunt, and 5 burglars were sentenced to 20, 35, and 40 years in prison. 
  • Later, John Dean, former white House counsel, revealed that Attorney General John Mitchell ordered the Watergate break-in and that the White House was covering up its involvement. 
  • The End 
  • Special prosecutor Archibald Cox, who had been appointed to investigate the Watergate break-in, immediately summoned to court 8 tapes from the White House.

  • Nixon fired Cox after Cox told him a summary of the tapes was not good enough. People began to protest and Nixon responded by appointing another special prosecutor, Leon Jaworski.
