Each flamingo lays one egg, so there are more eggs laid than eggs that survived.
There are variations in flamingos, long and short legs. The environment selects for and against one variation.
They live in sandy and large alkaline lakes. The flamingos need long legs so they can survive in the water.
The flamingos are constantly in the water so it's a struggle for short-legged flamingos because they can drown.
Nature selects FOR the long-legged flamingos because they can stand on the water which means they can get their food a lot easier, and therefore they are more likely to survive.
Over the course of many years, evolution and natural selection come together and form a population of just long-legged flamingos. There are only a few short-legged flamingos.
