Storyboard Text

  • As the mayor of Smog town, I have been feeling extremely sad as the air quality in my city is poor and is getting poorer each day.
  • However I am not sure on what to do or where to start.
  • I am an environmental scientist who studies pollution and how it impacts the environment I believe that I may be of some help.
  • What steps would you recommended me taking to better the air quality of my city?
  • I recommend that you invest in equipment that could work as potential solutions to this issue.
  • For example, you can start by installing vapor recover nozzles at gas stations. They prevent the release of VOCs by capturing gasoline vapors that escape from automobile tanks when being refueled
  • Wet & dry scrubbers and Electrostatic precipitators may also be installed at coal burning/power plants within the city. By using electrical energy to charge particles either positively or negatively, the differences in charge to separate and capture particulate matter at coal power plants as the charged particles are then attracted to collector plates carrying the opposite charge.
  • Wet scrubbers passing contaminated gas through a liquid designed to remove pollutants such as particulate matters. Dry scrubbers utilize a dry reaction material known as “sorbent”, such as alkaline slurry to remove acidic gases that contribute to acid rain in industrial exhaust gases.
  • Lastly, a catalytic converter that lie in the car exhaust systems as they use reduction to break up NOXs and through oxidation carbon monoxide is converted o carbon dioxide which are then released.
  • Thank you so much for your help, I've learned so much that I now can fix my city after all!!
