  • The American Revolution was a war between the 13 colonies and Great Britain, the colonies wanted to be independent from the British. The American patriots won their independence from defeating the British. From winning their independence they became the United States of America.

  • he Articles of Confederation created the first government and loose alliance of the 13 colonies. It was known as the first constitution of the United States. During the American Revolution it was ratified; March 1, 1781. It granted peace and war to the federal government and was written by delegates.
  • Revising the A of C
  • After America won Independence, American's worried that, "these United States", could not survive. They also fell into money problems, were they could not pay back individuals and foreign nations. Since foreign countries knew we became weak they took advantage of us and Britain ignored the Treaty of Paris, and Spain closed its port in New Orleans to American shipping, so western farmers didn't receive their products.
  • The Constitution
  • To admit a new state there had to be 60,000 free people and would have to be approved by congress. 5 new states were added to our country Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio.
  • After Shays' rebellion Americans saw the Articles of Confederation did not work. To not start conservery different leaders came together to meet in Philadelphia in May 1787. After, this convention it would create a new kind of working government.
  • James Madison wrote the Constitution, which was a document with rules and laws. This helped make a stronger government after getting rid of The Articles of Confederation. It was written during the Philadelphia (Constitutional) Convention.  September 17, 1787
