  • Lets raise taxes instead of issuing paper money to pay off its debts. This is a great idea to get us more money.
  • We don't have enough money last a week! We will have to sell of the farm to be able to sustain with the local economy.

  • Massachusetts decides to raise taxes instead of issuing paper money to pay off its debts. This causes outrage through out the colony.
  • My name is Daniel Shay and I stand here with the people against this new taxation!
  • Farmers take most of the damages with the taxes being so much that they didn't have enough to support there family's and pay off taxes and bills.
  • WE NEED CHANGE!
  • In late August 1787, they rebelled against the government about these new tax laws. They closed down several county courthouses to block farm foreclosures and then marched to the state supreme court.
  • All of this protesting has put the republic at risk! We have nothing to prevent these changes!
  • A man named Daniel Shay, a bankrupt farmer and a former captain in the Continental Army, became one of the founding leaders of this rebellion.
  • In January 1787, Shays and about 1,200 farmers headed to a state arsenal intending to seize weapons before marching on Boston
  • The Confederation’s failure to deal with these issues, as well as the problems with trade and diplomacy, only added fuel to their argument.
