Circe warns Odysseus of the Siren's song. Odysseus wants to hear it, so he gets his men to put beeswax in their ears and tie him to the mast, keeping him tied up no matter what he says.
Odysseus and his men must get by Scylla, a 6 headed monster, and Charybdis, a giant whirlpool. They manage to bypass them, but Scylla eats 6 of Odysseus' men.
Odysseus warns his men not to eat the sacred cattle of Helios. Odysseus is put to sleep by the gods, and Eurylochus convinces the crew to eat the cattle. Because of this, Zeus sends down a thunderbolt at Odysseus' ship due to the demands of Helios. The ship is destroyed, killing all men onboard except Odysseus. Odysseus drifts near Scylla and Charybdis, but escapes thanks to the help of Zeus and arrives on the island of Calypso where he is held captive for 7 years.
