Christopher waits outside of the flat of his mother's, while it is raining. She later comes home with Mr. Shears and he lives there with them for the time being. However, every night, Mother and Mr. Shears have been arguing with each other.
Mother and Christopher leave for Swindon because if they stayed then someone would get hurt. They go back to live with Father while Mother tries to find a job.
Christopher takes his A-level test back at Swindon, at first feeling frustrated and wanting to stab someone with his Swiss Army knife, but calms down by counting prime numbers in his head
Both of Christopher's parents want to be in his life, despite the fact that they don't necessarily like each other. Christopher still doesn't trust his Father and still hasn't spent any significant amount of time with his Mother.
To rebuild his trust, Father decides to get Christopher a golden retriever. It helped him as well since Christopher's pet rat had died after being 2 years and 7 months old.
Christopher has set goals for himself in the future, so that he can become a scientist and attend university. He also plans to get A grades in A-level Further Maths and A-level Physics.
