  • Exposition:  The townspeople gather into the square where they will begin the lottery soon.
  • Conflict: The townspeople watch as Mr. Summers places the box that has the tickets in the middle of the square. 
  • Rising Action: Every family has a head of the family that draws a ticket. All the townspeople's persons drew.
  • Climax: The Hutchinsons get the black dot and everyone is waiting silently to see which family member will die.
  • Falling action: Mrs. Hutchinsons gets the black dot.
  • Resolution: The townspeople will stone her now because she "won" the lottery.
