prisoners are held captive in a cave during ancient Greek times. there was only a wall between them and a small fire , they lived their since their childhood chained up only seeing shadows of things on the wall and they thought that what they saw on the wall was reality
One of the prisoners was freed from the cave ,and then forced into the sunlight.
The prisoners eyes starts to adjust to the light , but he doesn't fully understand that what he is seeing is real. He believed that the shadows in the cave was actually all there was to life.
As the prisoner explores outside of the cave he then realizes that the shadows and the fire is what establish life in the cave . Then he starts to believe that he knows what the reality of life is.
The prisoner now knows the meaning of life and realizes that he must go back to the cave to save the other prisoners.
When the prisoner gets to the cave he is unable to see the shadows that he saw before, but still tries to explain what he saw and set the other prisoners free. They don't know what he's talking about because all they know is the shadows . So, they threaten to kill him if he ever tries to set them free again
