at George is constantly annoyed by Lennie's way of thinking and interpreting, but, he is patient due to his understanding of Lennie's condition. Although sometimes he "loses it" and complains at Lennie on the life he says he could have on his own.
George is not satisfied with what he is being provided at their new job. Even though he was given the bunk where supposedly the cleanest laborer used to sleep, it came with a yellow can to repel bugs. By now, we can see how much George struggles finding the best he can get on a daily basis to support not only himself but also Lennie.
George is always speaking up for Lennie because he is trying to protect him, its almost as if he were "fighting Lennie's battles" by not giving him the chance to say a word in a confrontation. Although he does this to protect Lennie, this can be misconceived and interpreted as if George thought of Lennie as someone incapable of talking himself.
