Well, I'm glad you asked! It was way back before you were born. Around the 1940's exactly.
Mom, I was wondering what the different computer generations were.
1st Generation (1940 - 1955)
In the beginning, there were computers with vacuum tubes and drums to store data and memory.
2nd Generation (1956 - 1964)
When the 2nd generation hit, there were transistors instead of vacuum tubes which were more useful.
3rd Generation (1964 - 1971)
Transistors were short lived, replaced by integrated circuits, which began the next great thing.
4th Generation (1974 - going on)
And when microprocessors were invented, mass usage of computers began!
Wow! That's amazing! Thanks mom!
