  • Dred Scott was a slave in Missouri for many years, until he was sold to a guy named Dr. John  Emerson, where they moved to Wisconsin.
  • I am sooo tired
  • After several years Dred, his wife, kids, and Dr. Emerson Moved to St. Louis.  When Dr. Emerson died, the Scotts were left with his wife, Eliza Irene Stanford.
  • Welcome to St. Louis
  • In 1846 the Scotts tried to buy their freedoom from Stanford, but Stanford did not agree to it. So They Sued the court, for not considering that they were legally free.
  • This case soon went to the highest court, the Supreme Court. In the court Cheif Justice Roger B. Taney,argued that The scotts could not sue the court because they were not consider citizens.
  • The Scotts can't sue the court, they aren't citizens!
  • Boooo!
  • Unfortunatley, The Scotts ended up  losing, and the court still consider slaves to be property.They also said that Congress couldn't outlaw slavery, in any territory.
