Welcome to the Persian War. This war was started by King Darius in his quest to conquer the world. He couldn't do this without invading the Greeks. But, sadly, for the Persians, the Greeks won.
The Battle Of Marathon This was the first battle of the Persian war. It was in the Greek city Marathon. The Persians went against the Athenians with copper weapons. The Persians had bows and arrows. The Greeks won because the Persians couldn't reuse the arrows. Once they were out the greeks attacked
Battle of Thermopylae The Persians were mad at the Greeks and wanted revenge. But, the Greeks saw this coming so they were prepared, to lose. The Greeks lost this war. Yet, it is considered a success because the soldiers gave the other Greeks 3 DAYS to plan for the next war.
The Battle of Salamis The Greeks used the 3 days to plan. They decided to lead the Persian ships into the Strait of Salamis. The Persian boats were too large to get through the Straight. So the ships got stuck and the Greeks attacked. The Greeks won this war.
The Battle of Platea Prince Xerxes of Persia wanted revenge on the greeks, so the two met again in Platea. The Persians never changed to swords and shields. Instead, they used arrows. The greeks still used the bronze weapons. Therefore the Greeks won using the method used in the battle of Marathon
After the war, Greece reached its Golden Age. The Greeks defeated the "bully" and didn't get "picked on"for almost 100 years.
