Esperanza and her family move into a small house on mango street. But this time, the house is all their's and they don't have to pay rent. The house itself is not what Esperanza imagined it'd be: its small, has bricks crumbling in places, and has a swollen door.
Esperanza struggles with her self identity, and over time, starts to mature in ways she might not be ready for.
Esperanza started working at Peter Pan Photo Finishers, even though she's a minor. There, an old man forced Esperanza to kiss him.
