"The fighting was scattered all around southern Sudan,and now the war had come to where Salva lived...The boys scrambled to their feet.Some of them were crying.The teacher began to hurrying the students out the door"(Park 6-7).
External Conflict (Man vs. society) Now that the war had came to where Salva live he have to run from the war.This is a external conflict by now Salva is being forced by the war to runaway from his family,he have to try and survive on his own.
"Where had everyone gone?Why had they left without waking him?I would not have been any trouble-I would not have complained! What will I do now?” (Park 15).
Internal Conflict (man vs. himself) The people from Salva’s village left him alone in the barn.This is a internal conflict by now Salva have to decide on what he is going to do without adults when he is only eleven years old.
“Salva stopped walking and clutched at uncle’s arm. ‘But,uncle,I will have no one!Who will be my family?'”(Park 60).
