  • Mr Squirrel is very sad. He fell off his tree and now his girlfriend Miss Squirrel is all alone.
  • Mr. Squirrel knows that he is standing four feet away from the tree, and he is looking at Miss Squirrel at a 65 degree angle.
  • 4 feet
  • 65
  • Mr. Squirrel wants to know how tall the tree is. Luckily, he knows his trig functions! Mr. Squirrel calculates that 65 degrees is equal to 13π / 36.
  • x
  • 4 feet
  • 65
  • Since he knows the length of the adjacent side, and he is trying to find the opposite side, he can use tangent.
  • x
  • 4 feet
  • 65
  • He also knows that Cot (65) = 1.8 and Sin (65) = 0.22
  • Tan = Opp / Adj Tan (65) = x / 4Tan (65) x 4 = 8.6 feet
  • Since Mr. Squirrel knew how tall the tree was, he could climb up and see his squirrel girlfriend. Mr. & Miss Squirrel lived happily ever after.
