  • Imperialism led to an increase in confrontation that helped push the world into World War I
  • We need to get territories from Asia and Africa for their raw materials 
  • Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
  • Europe made mutual defense agreements, these treaties meant that if one country was attacked, their allied had to defend them. 
  • They killed the archduke!!!
  • Leave Serbia alone!
  • Sinking of the Lusitania a German U-boat sunk the British passenger ship Lusitania off the coast of Ireland.
  •  Africa and parts of Asia points of interest among the European countries. Because of the raw materials tensions around these areas ran high
  • Unrestricted Submarine Warfare - within less than one year another passenger ship was attacked (the cross-English Channel ferry Sussex)
  •  Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia
  • Zimmermann Telegram although it didn't go into action the letter further mobilized the American people against the Central Powers
  • Someone needs to put a stop to this
  • The telegram said that if the US should declare war on Germany, Mexico should declare war on the US In return, Mexico would get back the territory lost in the Mexican-American War
