In this scene Cassie lures Lillian Jean into the woods. She then tricks her and begins to beat her up. Cassie wants Lillian to apologize for all the bad things she has done to her. Cassie also does not leave a mark on Lillian to make sure no one knows. This is a significant scene because Cassie is finally standing up for her self after all the things white people have done to her.
In this scene Papa gets into an accident when he was on his way to Vicksburg. A gun was fired and a large wagon fell on Papas leg. Stacey was with papa when it happened and felt like a loser for not being able to lift the wagon off of Papa. This is a significant scene because Stacey already feels the need he needs to watch over and protect everybody for the things coming in their future.

T.J is trying to prove he has new better friends who give him stuff and that they teach him right.
