  • A vaccination is a treatment used to prevent diseases such as small pox.
  • What is a vaccination?
  • But how does it work?
  • A vaccination injects a microbe or disease that your body can easily fight into your body so it can alert the specific white blood cells to be ready for another disease that will be more dangerous.
  • Vaccinations were devised by Edward Jenner.
  • It was invented in the late 1700s.
  • It all started when a lot of people were suffering from a deadly disease called smallpox. There was a rumor that farmers who suffered from the milder disease called cowpox had a smaller chance of suffering from the more dangerous disease Smallpox.
  • Jenner did an experiment to see if giving a child cowpox would stop him from getting Smallpox. In the end it ended up working and Jenner vaccinated all the children in the village. YAY!
  • The benefits of vaccinations are that it will protect children from lots of serious diseases. Even more YAY now!
