"I mean, how long have you known?"(pg 181)
Laila's Parents Die
A bloody chunk of something .On it, the tip of a red bridge poking through thick fog."(pg 194)
Going to school and getting an education is very important to Laila and for it to be taken away from her because of the war is Enduring the unendurable.
Laila loves Tariq so much. She daydreams about him all the time, thinking about getting married and kissing him, but the war seperates her from her lover. Laila is enduring the unendurable because she has to go through her life without talking or anything with Tariq.
Laila is enduring the unendurable when her parents die because Babi and Mammy were the most important thing to Laila. She turned down Tariq's offer, of moving to a safer place, because she loved them so much and she knew that she was all they had. Tariq just left her right before her parents died so she has no way of getting back to the only thing she knows.
