The Five HelpersA Grumshi Dilemma Tale Originated in TogoDirected by Richard King
There was once a beautiful girl who was the daughter of a chief. There was no one whom she would agree to marry. There was also a snake who lived in a lake nearby the river. He wanted to marry her so he changed himself into a man and came to the village.
When the girl saw the young man she was delighted and wanted to marry him at once.
That night the young man and the girl were brought into a special hut where they would stay. During the night, the snake licked the girl all over and swallowed her then made off to the great lake.
The next morning the people came to the house and discovered the girl and the man were both missing. The chief was very angry and ordered all the villagers to find the two lovers but they could find no tracks.
The chief called for a man who could smell everything. The man smelled the trail of the girl and followed it down to the great lake. There he could go no further.
