  • PETITION OF RIGHTS
  • Needing money, Charles I calls Parliment, and Parliment execute his chief of ministers.  Nov. 3, 1640
  • Charles I wages war against Parliament, whose forces- the Roundheads. Aug. 22, 1642
  • Charles I captured, tried, and executed by Parliament. 1649
  • Oliver Cromwell rules "commonwealth" as a dictator though he officially takes the title "Lord Protector". Dec. 16, 1653
  • After Cromwell's death Parliament invites Charles I son to return from exile and become king. This is known as a restoration. May 29, 1660
