  • Hydroelectric Dams
  • oh, look! this water is flowing really fast!
  • This water is great for building a hydroelectric dam!
  • A hydroelectric dam? what is that?
  • Water is needed to run a hydroelectric dam. The water is held behind the dam, forming an artificial lake. The force of the water being released from the lake through the dam spins the blades of a giant turbine., which creates electricity.
  • A hydroelectric dam is a flow resource that converts the energy of rushing water into electrical energy.
  • Do you want to know what the positive and negative effects are?
  • Yes! I'm interested!
  • Ok, that's good. What are the negative effects?
  • Ok, this is the positive effect. Hydropower is fueled by water, so it's a clean fuel source. It won't pollute the air like power plants that burn fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas do.
  • A dam changes the flow of a river. This can change, or destroy, habitats for fish or wildlife. A dam can result in local flooding, which can damage ecosystems in the region.
  • Did you learn a lot about hydroelectric dams?
  • Yes, I learned a lot! thank you!
