1. Exposition Even as a wee lad she was beautiful. Unfortunately, her family was poor. Fate was not on her side. She wanted to marry big but married "a minor civil servant at the ministry of education" (pg. 373).
2.Rising action He husband presents to her an amazing gift! An invitation to a high-class establishment. She is ungrateful for she "haven't a thing to wear" (pg. 375).
3. Rising action There is a solution to this problem! Her close friend! There is a beautiful necklace so "She threw her arms around her friend's neck, kissed her ardently, and fled with her treasure" (pg.377).
4.Climax She is a fool. She has lost the necklace. "Then she cried out. The necklace was gone" (pg.377).
5. Falling action The woman seeks to right her wrongs. Off she goes to try and replace the necklace. There is one problem "I didn't sell the necklace, madame. I only supplied the case" (pg.378).
6.Resolution Old and tired, the necklace finally paid off. What's this? The woman who had lent her the necklace. Now that it's over she can tell her the secret "What I gave back to you was one just like it... Mathilde! Mine was false"(pg.380).
