Well it's really quite simple. You see an isotopes are elements that contain the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons in their nuclei.
Hi Mr. Lopez, I had a question on the homework. I'm not quite sure what an isotope is.
Ohh okay, yeah that makes sense, but how does this have an effect on their atomic mass?
That's easy to figure out now that you know what isotopes are. Since isotopes differ in neutrons then they end up having a different atomic mass.
When an isotope is stable it means it will not decay into other elements, but when it is unstable it will decay into other elements.
Okay, I get it now. I have more question, what does it mean when an isotope is stable or unstable?
