Storyboard Text

  • Well it's really quite simple. You see an isotopes are elements that contain the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons in their nuclei.
  • Hi Mr. Lopez, I had a question on the homework. I'm not quite sure what an isotope is.
  • Ohh okay, yeah that makes sense, but how does this have an effect on their atomic mass?
  • That's easy to figure out now that you know what isotopes are. Since isotopes differ in neutrons then they end up having a different atomic mass.
  • When an isotope is stable it means it will not decay into other elements, but when it is unstable it will decay into other elements.
  • Okay, I get it now. I have more question, what does it mean when an isotope is stable or unstable?
