Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were sent by president Jefferson on an expedition to explore land he had purchased in the Louisiana Purchase. Surpassing all challenges faced along the way, Lewis and Clark discovered new land that offered availability for settlement. In addition to finding living space, they were to make peace with the natives as well as find a water route to the Pacific Ocean.
President Jefferson's greatest achievement and one of history's greatest real estate bargains at $15 million dollars. Jefferson purchased this land from France, when they decided to sell in order to cover the costs of the war. The US benefited greatly from this purchase, doubling the size of the US and insuring political stability.

In 1794, the Whiskey Rebellion broke out when the Pennsylvania farmers looked to stop the unfair taxes from the government on alcohol. Using symbols from 1776, the "rebels" protested with signs reading "Liberty or Death." President Washington became the first president to command an army in the field, when he along with 13,000 militiamen traveled to wester Pennsylvania in attempt to stop the rebels, however they did not succeed.

In 1798, president Adams passed the Alien and Sedition Acts, creating the greatest crisis of his administration. The four acts, were passed amid the fear of the war with France. The acts restricted freedom of speech as well as foreigners activity in the US. Allowing deportation of non US citizens and allowing prosecution of publications on political topics.
