Storyboard Text

  • Nice. The flu shot is designed to help develop your immune system's anti-bodies  and cell-mediate response so it can kill the flu before it gets serious
  • Cell-mediated response activates phagocytes, antigen-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocytes, and the release of various cytokines in response to an antigen (to kill the infected cells).
  • Ok doc. I'm ready for the flu shot. It's time for the vaccine.
  • I am a macrophage. I was notified by the antibody to eat the microbe so it can gain more than non-specific immunity
  • The antigen is marked by the antibody which allows the macrophage to engulf the foreign threat/invader
  • I am a neutrophil. I was the first one to arrive when the virus got in. I ate the micro-organism.
  • Neutrophil
  • My Memory B cells will do the work next time, thank god!
  • Humoral Response turns B-cells into antibodies to engulf the antigens. Thus, they gain specific immunity to the certain type of flu.
  • Whew, I'm glad that my antibodies will protect me from the flu virus
  • Bacteria surely won't give me the flu now.
  • Now the body's helper t-cells won't signal the cytotoxic t cells to target me.
  • I hate vaccines! I am a different version of the flu so I avoided the Leukocytes and accessed the body.
  • Inside the Body...
  • Yeah. There's an inflammation of your throat. This would mean that your flu wasn't the type for the vaccine.
  • Doc, I'm suffering from flu-like symptoms a month after my flu shot.
  • Seems like it. Looks like your suppressor t cell finished the job. They closed down your immune system's activities.
  • Wow Doc. I feel much better! I think I'm free from the flu.
  • A month later...
