Have you ever seen a plant and thought how it gives us air?
This is a plant. It goes through a process called photosynthesis to produce oxygen and glucose.
Indeed. But for me to go through photosynthesis, I need Carbon Dioxide, Water, and Sunlight.
Plants have chloroplasts which is where photosynthesis takes place. Those chloroplasts are in chlorophyll, which absorbs sunlight. That is why plant leaves are green!
I am giving you oxygen right now.
I have to repay the plant for giving me oxygen. But you may wonder how I can repay him. It is called cellular respiration.
You better repay me. Otherwise, no more oxygen production for you.
Cellular Respiration happens in the mitochondria (aka the powerhouse of the cell). We need oxygen and glucose (the products of photosynthesis) to perform cellular respiration.
The reactants are very important. Carbon Dioxide, Water, and ATP energy are produced. Plants need these products. They should be very pleased that I have provided them with their needs.
YAY! WE GET OUR REACTANTS BACK! WE CAN MAKE MORE OXYGEN AND GLUCOSE!
Thanks for joining us on a brief lesson on photosynthesis and cellular respiration. See you next time!
