Storyboard Text

  • Today class we are discussing about the father of genetics . You should know some of this by your notes that you took last night for homework.
  • Sounds cool
  • Bob Ross?
  • No Penelope, Gregor Mendel
  • Each one of you have recieved a trait from your parents. This is part of genetics.
  • Mendel used pea plants to observed their traits
  • He controlled self pollution in the plants. The pistil of the plant lands on another flower.
  • He started to select which plants pollinated other plants
  • Mendel started to do test on true-breeding, during the true-breeding , the self-pollution would make the offspring  have same traits as the parents.
  • He transferred pollen from the stamens to another flower. As a result Mendel had cross-pollinated hundreds of plants
  • The second generation is hybrid. This trait had disappeared in the first generation, but not in the second one. He also found out that this occurred to the seeds too.
  • There are two different generations with genes.
  • The first one was a cross between true breeding with purple and white flowers. Each inherited one thing from their parent.
  • As we are approaching the end of class , who can remember two other traits?
  • One of them is a dominant trait, this is when a genetic factor blocks another genetic factor
  • The other one is called a recessive. This trait is when a genetic factor is blocked by the presence of dominant  factor
  • He didn't assign any homework!
