in 1918, Rolihlala Mandela was born in Mveso in South Africa's eastern cape. He is the son of Thembu tribal chief.
In 1962, Mandela was arrested for leaving the country with out a passport and in 1964, he was charged with sabotage and was sentenced to life imprisonment
In 1990, Mandela was freed from prison. He continued his campaign for the end of Apartheid through talks with the White (National Party) Government. The talks earned Mandela the Nobel Peace Prize in December 1993. He was then voted and elected as the first black president in 1994.
In 2011, Mandela was admitted to a hospital with a respiratory infection and suffered repeated infections over the next 2 years. He then passed away on the 5th of December 2013
