"I told them becaus all my life I wantid to be smart and not dumb pg.1"
Charlie Gordon a 37 year old man with a low IQ desperately wants to be smarter and be a normal person.
"Their going to use me! Im so exited I can hardly write! pg.2" "Im skared. Lots of people who work here and the nurses and the people who gave me the test came to bring me candy and wish me luck pg.3"
Charlie meets a mouse named Algernon who is also an experiment like Charlie, and had/having the same surgery as Charlie. Charlie is frustrated on how smart Algernon is compared to him before he had the surgery. But they soon become best friends.
The operation was successful. Charlie was now considered one of the 2% of geniuses in the population. And Charlie knew that as soon as he was done with the operation he wanted to help people just like him.
"I put Algernon's body in a cheese box and buried him in the back yard. I cried. pg.19"
Algernon then dies due to the experiment and strange behavior. Charlie was very upset.
Charlie gathers some research on "The Algernon-Gordon Effect" So Charlie can predict if he will have the same symptoms and fate as Algernon. His prediction... is right.
"Dear Dr. Strauss, as you see, my experiment is completed. Because of its importance to both you and Dr. Nemur I have checked and rechecked my results a dozen times in the hope of finding an error. I am sorry to say that the results must stand. pg 17"
Charlie then leaves. So he can use the last ounce of knowledge that he has left, to help people that where just like him.
"Goodbye Miss Kinnian and Dr. Strauss and everybody. I am going to have lots of frends where I go P.P.S. Please if you get a chanse put some flowrs on Algernons grave in the back yard pg.22"
