  • Octavia E. Butler was an author. She was born on June 22, 1947; and she died at only the age of 58 on February 26, 2006. She was raised by her single mother, because her father died when Octavia was only at a young age. Octavia knew that she wanted to be an author at the age of 10. Octavia's books were all a mix of science fiction, or African American Spiritualism.
  • Not only was Octavia a great writer, but she was dyslexic. Dyslexia is a disease where when you write or read you can mix up your letters and words. This shows that Octavia overcame her disease and became a very good writer. Octavia won many awards for her writing, such as the 1984 Best Short Story Hugo Award.
  • Octavia E. Butler was a great author, but why is she important to African American History? Octavia did not only write science fiction but she wrote about what was important to her.HER RACE! She wrote about how African Americans are treated, and how they are treated wrong. Also to help to keep African Americans Spirits up and to keep moving on.
