Storyboard Text

  • Cashier: "Welcome to Superstore. How is your day going so far?" Woman: *confused and silent*
  • Cashier: "That will be $15.75, please" Woman: "No English" as she places her money on the counter looking confused
  • Even though there is a long line of angry customers, the cashier uses non-verbal communication techniques to comfort the woman and calls over an employee who is fluent in her language
  • An employee who speaks the woman's language comes to the front desk and helps the lady pay for her groceries
  • *In a different language* Employee: "Hi there! How are you today?" Woman: "Hello! Please, I need your help! I do not understand." Employee: "I'd be more than happy to assist! It looks like your total came up to $15.75." Woman: "Oh splendid! Thank you very much!"
  • *In a different language* Woman: "Thank you very much! Thank you for being patient with me." Employee: "No problem! It was my pleasure! I understand your situation, because I was in your shoes once." Woman: "Thank you again! Oh and can you also let the cashier know that I am grateful. Now I can go cook some dinner!"
