"Keep her quiet! Make that madwomen shut up. She's not the only one here.."
"Your age? In good health? Your profession?"
"I'm forty years old. Good health. Profession is farming."
"I'm eighteen." Yes, in good health. "Farmer"
"Doctor can't you tell I'm sick, I promise I'll come back when I'm better"
"All right, son. Come back to see me when you feel better. But don't wait for me to call you!"
Crammed inside little cattle trains, the Jews of Sighet are on their way to an unkown destination. The German Guards order them not to lose anyone, if anyone goes missing they will all be shot "like dogs". During the ride Mrs. Schachter constantly screams about her vision of a fire. She is told to shut up and takes many blows to the head.
"Here's one! Take him!" "Come on! Here's another!" "He's not moving!"
Jews must leave all their possessions in the cattle car as they move into the concentration camp. Men are sent to the left, women to the right. Prisoners are sent to Dr. Mengele and questioned about age and occupation. Eliezer and his father lie to him to stay alive. They are then assigned to the barracks to where they will stay.
"It's to packed. I'll wait in line until it goes down then we can get one."
Eliezer's group asks around to find out which work group is the best to be assigned to. The word around the camp says the "Kommando" is the best. The next day there is a medical and dental examination, they simply ask you if you're in good health and if you have any gold crowns. Eliezer had a gold crown, but he lies to the doctor and he tells him to come back when he's better. The next day the office got shut down because it was fake.
"You do know that the Red Army arrived the night after we left right?"
The prisoners are being crammed into the train car on their ride to somewhere in Germany. When the train stops here and there the SS men order the prisoners to throw out any dead bodies. The prisoners are happy with this because it creates more room for everyone. One day a man threw a piece of bread into the cart to see how the prisoners would react, amused he laughed at when they fought like animals to get a crumb
At Buchenwald, Eliezer and his father go to take a hot shower. But it's so crowded that Elie's father goes to lie down in some snow. Eliezer refuses to let his father sit down because he sees the ground covered in dead bodies. Eliezer feels like he's already playing with death because that's what his father has chosen to do. A barrack call is ordered and they all scatter and go in to sleep. Eliezer wakes up the next morning and ooks for his father, he finds him but has grown way weak.
"No Eliezer. I can't go. Just let me rest here."
Eliezer is at Buchenwald. Since his fathers death not has mattered to him anymore. The Germans are fearful from the Allies pushing close. One day the camps are evacuated to move forward. But Eliezer heard some news so he moved to the next camp, but really he could've been rescused if he stayed. On April 11th, 1949 he is liquidated and saved by the Red Army.
"Keep it moving!" No stopping, unless you want to get shot."
