Tom Walker and his wife argue over everything. They are both extremely greedy and won't even share their money with the horse to buy it food.
Can I sell my soul?
Tom Walker wanders off into the woods while taking a shortcut home and stumbles upon a hut that happens to be owned by the Devil.
While in the woods, the Devil bargains with Tom as he wants to buy Tom's soul from him. Being extremely greedy, he wants to do this but since his wife tells him to, he decides against it.
Since her husband won't sell his soul for riches, she decides that she will give it a try but the Devil wants more than just her soul.
As she is returning from her venture, she gets lost. Many people assumed that she sold her soul and moved to an island all alone with her money but all that was left in the woods were her apron, clumps of hair, liver, and her heart.
One day, a man on a black horse came for Tom Walker. The man whisked him away and he was never seen again, just a black figure riding around empty fields. One day that figure was seen going into the forest where Tom's house is and right afterwards his great house caught fire.
