  • Indian Removal Act
  • When Andrew Jackson grew up he ran for president in 1824 . feeling that it was stolen from him, he created Jackson Democracy 
  • Jackson  won the election of 1828, and he took his beliefs about the native Americans with him, he wanted them to move west of the Mississippi 
  • Jackson asked congress to past a law that would require native Americans to either move west or submit to state laws 
  • After a heated debate congress passed the Indian removal act in 1830, this act called for the government to negotiate treaties that would require native Americans to relocate west  
  • Jackson set out to enforce the law immediately , tribes were pushed out of their homes and whites invaded them and their families . this caused native Americans to pack up their belongings and travel on a trial that eventually became known as the trails of tears
