Mr.Hundart was telling the story about how he tried to help one of the students change for the better and be the best to their ablity, but how it somehow backed fired on him in the end.
" I tell it only to record certain foretellable incidents in the life of a well-known man, in the event that the brief candle of his days may sometime come under the scrutiny of another student of history. That is all. This is a story with surprises. "
Sedgwick came to the school and showed that he was troubled. Mr.Hundart could tell that he was going to be a hard one to handle.
Mr.Hundart went to talk to talk to Sedgwicks father and tried to tell him that he was trying to help his son, but Mr.Bell Senior dismissed him and had him exit the room.
"No, it is my job to mold my son. "
"It is my job to mold your son."
Mr.Hundart gave Sedgwick an A when he really earned a B. This allowed him to be apart of the Julius Caesar competition that is always held at their school.
"He actually knows what he's doing. He is doing so much better then he was before."
"who was the leading Carthaginian general of the Second Punic War?"
Sedgwick appeared as he was having trouble when it came to the questions that he answered, but he would put his hands on his head and take a few seconds then say the correct answer. Mr.Hundert figured out he was cheating but waited until the end to say something.
Mr.Hundarnt gave Sedgwick his diploma and he still had not changed. Watching him show no improvement made him feel as though he had failed as a teacher. He knew that Sedgwick cheated in the competition but he had kept it between them.
