The first language introduced to me was English, therefore becoming my primary language
My grandmother, as well as other family members, speak English but prefer to speak a form of Afrikaans, known as "Kombuis Afrikaans"
From the age of 7, I am sent to Muslim school and taught to both read and write Arabic
At school, English is reinforced as my primary language. I am also taught Afrikaans in its 'correct' or "suiwer" form
While living in South Africa has meant being surrounded by eleven beautiful languages, it it years later that a Spanishman captures my heart, and so I begin to learn Spanish
I am made up of the languages that surround me on a daily basis. Each one influences me in a different way but English remains my language of choice, due to it being my home-language, as well as a globally used language
