Throughout the years, Hawking's condition became worse. In 1969 he had to use a wheelchair. In 1985 he had a tracheotomy, causing him to lose his voice. Even with these problems, Hawking had three children and theoreticized a phenomenon known as Hawking radiation(Biography.com).
