On Theodosius' death in 394 AD, Alaric revolted in a bid to secure better terms. He attacked the cities of the east to force the eastern imperial authorities in Constantinople to offer concessions, which they did in 397 AD.
Theodosius is dead.
A change of regime led to their definitive removal, and in 401-402 AD, he invaded Italy to try the same tactics - unsuccessfully - on the east.
Barbarian invasions across the Rhine and Danube forced the effective ruler of the west, Stilicho ruling in the name of the emperor Honorius, to have an alliance with Alaric.

Alaric died of disease in 411 AD without extracting the deal he so craved.
To summarize it all, first Alaric Created the Visigoths, a new 'super-tribe'. Then sadly Theodosius sadly died in 394 AD. Which caused Alaric to secure better terms. After that he invaded Italy from 401 - 402 AD. Then Barbarian invasions forced Stilicho to have an alliance with Alaric. Finally Alaric later died from disease in 411 AD.
