One day a trapper saw Enkidu drinking and living with the other beasts of the land. He feared for his life and went to Gilgamesh in Uruk who instructed him to take a woman with him to civilize Enkidu
When he did take the woman there, Enkidu spent seven days and six nights with her. After a time he tried to return to his fellow wild animals but they rejected him and he was unable to follow them, for he was a man now
The woman said "Why do you want to be like the beast of the field? You are smart Enkidu, you have been civilized you must come to Uruk with me and challenge Gilgamesh, for he is a rambunctious ruler and only your power is close enough to match his.
The same night before Enkidu was convinced to challenge Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh had had two dreams, one that a meteor fell from the sky, and all gathered around to praise it and the gods named it his brother. The second dream was that he found a strange axe in Uruk who's power Gilgamesh was glad to possess. Both of these dreams explained by his mother were about his brother.
That evening when Gilgamesh was about to interfere with another couples relationship, Enkidu had arrived in Uruk and stood in front of the threshold not allowing Gilgamesh in. They fought and with great strength, Gilgamesh threw Enkidu.
Enkidu realized Gilgamesh's great strength and respected it, as did Gilgamesh to Enkidu. They realized they had to be brothers bound by their strength, and they embraced one another and sealed a friendship
