I, Aaron Hessler, have gathered you all here on this dire occasion to discuss my thoughts on the Declaration of Independence, and my final decision on whether or not I should sign.
But, have you thought about our pledge to freedom? What about the interminable taxes the British will continue to place upon? Us being forced to pay for, and let their armies take refuge? what about our independence?
Yes, of course, I will continue to support such causes, however, the risks that come along with my signature are much too high, I have an estate, a family, I am not sure if I can risk such things I hold so dear due to treason.
Surely, there is some alternative way around this, which will involve you signing the Declaration of Independence, for the Sons of Liberty’s movements have led up to this all.
Perhaps there is, but as of now I am unsure. Of course, the greater good does lie rest on it, which is in truth a reward in itself not just for me, but for all. I have to take into consideration not just me and my own life but the freedom of many others. As of now, we also have France as an ally as well.
I will have to ponder this dilemma further, but regardless of whether or not I sign, I will still stay true to our movement, and continue with my support as a patriot, for our colonies, and for the people.
