The medic in world war one 's role was to help soldiers who were injured and to escort injured soldiers away from the battlefield. The soldier would usually be taken by motorcar to a train, then from a train to a base hospital. usually anything that was wounded got infected, so they solved the problem with amputation. luckily, there were anesthetics at the time.
The field hospital was usually packed but had little to nothing that could actually help the injured soldiers. that is why they would be transferred to the base hospital, which had a lot more that could be used to help the injured. there were a lot of women at the WWI base hospitals acting as nurses. only one recorded woman was said to be a doctor.
