Olivia is an emotional character mourning for her dead brother and denies the love of Orsino, the Duke who is affectionate and determined for his love.
I shall mourn for the death of my brother for seven years. And shall not think about love itself.

Viola, is a bold and daring character who has been sipwrecked and decides to serve the duke of Illyria, Orsino as a man. She is very bold in taking this decision and does not worry about the upcoming consequences.
“Conceal me what I am, I will serve this Duke”
Sir Toby Belch and Sir Andrew Aguecheek are great friends. But smart Sir Toby uses Sir Andrew to afford his luxurious and pricey lifestyle by tricking the rather stupid Sir Andrew by telling him that Olivia loves him.

Viola, who is now serving Orsino as a man, Cesario is sent to Olivia to convince her about Orsino's love for her. Olivia's dramatic attitude is now revealed as she describes herself.

But apparently, Olivia falls for Cesario's beauty and persona. But we soon learn that Viola is in love with Orsino. This depicts Viola's kind and helpful nature.
“Methinks I feel this youth’s perfections with an invisible and subtle stealth to creep in at mine eyes.”
Olivia's chambermaid, Maria was considered to be a kind and sweet character, but we learn that she is in love with Sir Toby and hence joins him in pranking Malvolio. This depicts the fun attitude/ behaviour of Maria.
