About a thousand of Parisians stormed into a place where it once was a military hospital. It was also a storeroom for weapons, so they stole cannons and muskets from there. They headed back to the Bastille, which became a prison for those who opposed the king.
Cannon volleys went back and forth until the government of the Bastille decided to reason with the mob. The mob didn't understand, they barged through the gates and stole whatever gunpowder they could find.
They cut the governor's head with a pocket knife and paraded with it around Paris. The commoners saved seven people who were imprisoned in the castle. Two of whom were insane.
