"I don't remember touching her, but the next thing I knew, Nancy was sitting on her butt in the fountain, screaming, "Percy pushed me!" "I was about to unwrap my sandwich when Nancy Bobofit appeared in front of me with the ugly friends-I guess she'd gotten tired of stealing from the tourists-and dumped her half-eaten lunch in Grover's lap." (Pg. 10) I chose ch. vs. ch. because Percy and Nancy are both characters who are having a conflict. The scene is when Nancy Bobofit got into a fight with Grover, Percy "pushes" her into the water fountain.
Character Vs. Society
"I'm telling you, Mrs. Dodds was never a teacher here, or never existed!
"Ya, we have never heard of her in our live!"
"Then the weirdest thing happened. Her (Mrs. Dodds) eyes began to glow like barbecue coals. Her fingers stretched, turning into talons. Her jacket melted into large, leathery wings. She wasn't human. She was a shriveled hag with bat wings and claws and a mouth full of yellow fangs, and she was about to slice me to ribbons." (Pg. 14) I chose ch. vs. supernatural because Percy is a character and Mrs. Dodds has supernatural powers and she is a mystical creature. This scene represents when Percy gets taken in the far back of the museum and Mrs. Dodds turns into a furry.
Character Vs. Supernatural
"The evening before my final, I got so frustrated I threw the Cambridge Guide to Greek Mythology across my dorm room. Words had started swimming off the page, circling my head, the letters doing one-eighties as if they were riding skateboards." (Pg. 20) This scene is when Percy is studying for his Latin exam and keeps having trouble with letters swirling off of the page. Then he threw the book across the room and got very frustrated.
Charcater Vs. Society
"...I hope Mrs. Kerr whipped your butt." I blinked. We had no teacher named Mrs. Kerr. I asked Nancy what she was talking about." (Pg. 16) This scene is when Percy just comes back from being with Mrs. Dodds and everyone at the field trip is acting like Mrs. Dodds never existed. I chose ch. vs. society because the school is the society and they are all on the opposite side of his.
"After a few minutes clanking around in the engine compartment, the driver announced that we'd all have to get off." (Pg. 28) "The old lady in the middle took out a huge pair of scissors-gold and silver, long-bladed, like shears. I heard Grover catch his breath." (Pg. 29) I chose ch. vs. supernatural because those three ladies are the Kindly Ones or furries, they end and start lives with their string of life. This scene is when Grover and Percy have to get off the bus because it broke down and wait, while they are waiting they see the three old ladies and Grover freaks out.
"Annabeth," Chiron said, "I have masters' archery class at noon. Would you take Percy from here?" (Pg. 87) "We passed the volleyball pit. Several of the campers nudged each other. One pointed to the minotaur horn I was carrying. Another said, "That's him." (Pg. 79) I chose ch. vs. society because the camp is the society and they are all talking about him. This scene is when Annabeth is showing Percy around the camp and everyone is talking about him.
