Akhtar's family grabbed several guns and started a battle in the village, which ended when police shot the men holding the house, which was burned the next day.
The Rana family sought refuge in their home in Bogra; after hearing attacks were imminent, they traveled by kafila (caravan) to Tirchian.
During the family's journey to Lahore, Rana was worried. He was grief-stricken and didn't know what lay ahead of him in Pakistan, a place he had never been to before.
Akhtar eventually went back to school, graduated from university, and married Akhtar Bibi. Today, he lives in Chunian.
